Microsoft Office 365 Announcement to Students, Teachers and Staff

Today we are happy to inform you a new self-serve model for students that lets them sign up for the free Office 365 service on their own.

If you’re a student 13 years-old of age or older, here’s what you can do to check your eligibility and get Office for free:

  1. Go to www.office.com/getOffice365
  2. Click on Students box in the middle of the page
  3. Enter your school provided Google Apps email address.
  4. Check your Google Apps student account email to complete the Office 365 Education sign-up.

Here’s what qualified students will receive:

  • The latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook.
  • Installation on up to five PCs or Macs, and Office apps on other mobile devices including Windows tablets and iPad
  • 1 Terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage
  • Office Online

Sign-up for students is available today! Please be sure check out the frequently asked questions section at the bottom of the get Office 365 page for important info regarding the program.

In order to be eligible for this benefit, the student must attend an AVUHSD school and have a Google Apps account.

For students, Office 365 does not replace your Google Apps account or services. An Office 365 email account is not included in this service. Signing up is easy and only takes a few minutes.

We have even more great news to share—we’re also announcing that teachers and staff are now eligible to sign up for the same Office 365 benefit as our students. Follow these simple steps to take advantage of the program.

  1. Go to www.office.com/getOffice365
  2. Click on Teachers box in the middle of the page.
  3. Enter your @avhsd.org email address.
  4. Check your District email to complete the Office 365 Education sign-up.

Teachers and Staff will enjoy all the same benefits as our students. Please be sure check out the frequently asked questions section at the bottom of the get Office 365 page for important info regarding the program.

Also, the Office 2013 Pro install is not intended for district owned computers or portable devices. Please do not attempt to install Office on your AVHSD computer or portable device. Office 2013 Pro for Students, Teachers and Staff is intended for personal devices you own. If your school computer does not have Office 2013 Pro, please contact your site network technician via http://helpdesk.avhsd.org

For teachers and staff, Office 365 does not replace your existing district email address. An email account is not provided as part of the Office 365 system.

Please note that the Office 365 Program for Teachers and Staff is not the same as, or intended to replace Office 2013 Pro purchased under the Home Use Program. The Office 365 Program is only good for as long as you are employed by the District whereas the HUP program is a license key you purchase that stays with you for as long as you use the software. If you’ve already purchased Office 2013 under the home use program, you do not need Office 365.
